What we treat

Help for the conditions that bring people to psychiatry

You don’t need a diagnosis to reach out. If something is getting in the way of your mood, focus, sleep, relationships or daily life, we’ll help you understand it and build a plan to feel better.

Depression

Persistent low mood, loss of interest, fatigue, changes in sleep or appetite, or trouble concentrating. Depression doesn’t always look like sadness — sometimes it’s numbness, irritability or just getting through the day.

How we help: careful evaluation, antidepressant and augmentation strategies, therapy, and measurement-based follow-up. Including treatment-resistant and postpartum depression.

Anxiety & panic

Constant worry, racing thoughts, panic attacks, social anxiety or physical symptoms like a pounding heart and tight chest. Anxiety is among the most treatable conditions we see.

How we help: non-habit-forming medication options, CBT and exposure-based therapy, and practical skills for panic and worry.

ADHD

Trouble focusing, staying organized, finishing tasks or managing time — in teens and in adults, including those diagnosed later in life.

How we help: thorough evaluation, stimulant and non-stimulant options with safety monitoring, and skills-based support.

Bipolar disorder

Cycles of depression and periods of elevated or irritable mood, high energy, less need for sleep or impulsive decisions — Bipolar I, Bipolar II and related conditions.

How we help: accurate diagnosis, mood-stabilizing medication, lab monitoring when needed, and relapse-prevention planning.

PTSD & trauma

Flashbacks, nightmares, feeling on edge, avoidance or emotional numbness after a frightening or overwhelming experience.

How we help: trauma-informed psychiatric care, medication for sleep and hyperarousal, and trauma-focused therapy.

OCD

Intrusive, unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals that are hard to stop and take up valuable time.

How we help: evidence-based medication and coordination with exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy.

Insomnia & sleep problems

Trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or waking up rested — often tied to mood, anxiety or stress.

How we help: identifying underlying causes, CBT-informed sleep strategies and careful use of medication when appropriate.

Other mood disorders

Persistent depressive disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), seasonal patterns and mood changes related to life stages.

How we help: individualized medication and therapy plans that account for your health and life context.

Schizophrenia & psychosis

Hallucinations, unusual beliefs, disorganized thinking or withdrawal, including schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.

How we help: antipsychotic management with metabolic monitoring, family involvement and coordination with higher levels of care when needed.

Substance use & co-occurring disorders

Alcohol, cannabis or other substance use alongside depression, anxiety, trauma or other mental health concerns.

How we help: integrated treatment of both mental health and substance use, and coordination with specialized programs when needed. Learn more

Personality disorders

Long-standing patterns of intense emotions, unstable relationships or difficulty with self-image that cause ongoing distress.

How we help: compassionate psychiatric care, targeted medication for symptoms, and DBT-informed therapy.

Stress, grief & burnout

Adjustment to major life changes, loss, caregiving strain or work burnout that’s affecting how you feel and function.

How we help: short-term therapy, practical coping strategies, and medication when symptoms warrant it.

Substance use & co-occurring disorders

Treating mental health and substance use together

Substance use and mental health conditions often go hand in hand. Alcohol, cannabis, opioids, stimulants or other substances can start as a way to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma or sleep problems — and then make those symptoms worse.

At Altus, we treat both at the same time, without judgment. Integrated care means one plan that addresses your mental health, your substance use and how they affect each other.

How we help

  • Comprehensive evaluation of mental health and substance use
  • Treatment for co-occurring depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD and ADHD
  • Medication options that support recovery, when appropriate
  • Careful, safety-focused prescribing
  • Individual therapy using motivational interviewing and CBT
  • Coordination with PHP, IOP and specialized substance use programs when more support is needed
  • Ongoing follow-up after a program or hospital stay

Finding the right fit

When you need a different level of care

Some situations call for more support than outpatient visits can provide. If that’s the case, we’ll help you find the right next step — including partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient programs — and be here for follow-up when you’re ready.
